How does it happen? The Moon orbits around the earth.  The Earth orbits around the Sun as part of the solar system.  There are certain times that during the Moon’s orbit, that it travels between the Sun and the Earth. Sun as a source of light, will cast a shadow on Earth, of anything that comes in between it and Earth.   During an eclipse of the Sun, an intresting phenomenon occurs.  This phenomenon is created by the shadow cast by the earth.
