Did you know that prior to the current version of Mobistudios you see today, Mobistudios first started out as a mobile photography studio business based in Australia? I’m sure it will come as a surprise to all of you too.
For some background, Mobistudios was first founded by my brother, Mohamad Sulhanuddin back in 2009. For starters, my brother is an electronics & electrical engineer by professional training, majoring in applied electronics and control systems. Prior to Mobistudios, he had accumulated a decade of industry experience in manufacturing and product research development engineering in Hewlett Packard Singapore where he was involved in the setting up of manufacturing lines in Asia and product design and development activities for consumer and professional office products. He brought this first-hand industry experience with him when starting Mobistudios.
After that short stint as a photography business, Mobistudios was rebranded as a digital signage solutions provider with the goal of offering creative design and technology related services. Over the course of 6 years of experience operating in Australia, valuable insight and knowledge was gained about digital signage content development and solutions. Mobistudios was involved in large projects spanning multiple cities within Australia. In 2012-2013, they were involved in a large-scale LED wall project located in shopping centres around Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.
With this knowledge and years of first-hand experience, Mobistudios saw the opportunity to expand this business into Singapore and bring the digital signage technology into the Singaporean market. At that time, Singapore’s digital signage solution industry was definitely not on par with that of Australia. Hence in 2015, Mobistudios ventured into Singapore to create new opportunities and explore new grounds in offering innovative design & technology solutions. Upon entering the Singaporean market in 2015, I saw how quickly Mobistudios was growing. For example, in River Valley High School, Mobistudios was challenged to incorporate digital signage networks throughout the whole school. Following that digital signage solutions were also implemented in local mosques namely Masjid Maarof, Masjid Mukminin, Masjid Sultan, and Masjid Khair, just to name a few.
I joined the team recently in 2020 after 35 years of experience in the marine, oil and gas industry and my current role in the Mobistudios team is business development and marketing. Prior to 2020, I had retired back in September and was actually more a passive investor. So, what made me take the plunge to join the team? Frankly speaking, I took a 3 month break but was itching to apply the years of professional working experience I had gathered, somewhere. After amassing over 30 years of experience, I thought to myself that at this age, I should be opening my own business rather than thinking about returning to the same industry, even if I was already good at what I was doing. With that, I decided to approach my brother and offer my help in helping him to expand Mobistudios further. Thankfully it worked out perfectly because my brother was based in Melbourne Australia and could not be here all the time overseeing the operations in Mobistudios (Singapore). I took over the Business Development and Marketing for the Singapore branch, back in January.
However, as you all know COVID-19 hit without a warning soon after and we have been forced to adapt and evolve with the changing times. While it has admittedly been difficult, situations like these offer us a chance to explore new grounds and come up with innovative design and technology solutions. In these few months alone, we have launched the iWalker as well as the 4-in-1 Safe Entry kiosk which are solutions that have been tailored to deal with the COVID-19 crisis in a more efficient manner. Working at Mobistudios has definitely been an exciting and eye-opening experience for me thus far and I can’t wait to see how much more we are going to achieve in the upcoming months.
